Let’s Talk a Bit About Photographic Style

Unlike other types of products or services, photography is almost a blind purchase. It’s essentially a promise of a potential outcome, especially when it comes to covering an unpredictable event like a wedding. This unpredictability becomes even more challenging if the style is spontaneous, making control and predictability harder to achieve.

So, how do you choose a photographer?
A photographer is an artist. They use their expertise, techniques, and talents to deliver their service, which is why it’s important to know your photographer beforehand. The click of the camera is not just a technical act; it encapsulates all the photographer’s experiences, personal tastes, cultural background, and life journey. It’s hard for a professional in this field to excel by relying only on a few photographic tricks. This is where their photographic style truly shines—it’s their essence distilled into their art.

A photographer creates photos for themselves. When we hire an artist, we are specifically hiring their unique way of making art. If someone says they adapt to the client’s style in terms of art and aesthetics, my advice is to avoid them, as they likely lack a distinct style. For example, my style is more photojournalistic and spontaneous, while also striving for aesthetically refined photography. These are basically two opposites in the photography world, but that’s my style. That’s how I like to see my photos.

Does this mean more traditional photographers are worse? Absolutely not. I must say that, unlike a bar of chocolate, my photography isn’t for everyone. Some people prefer modern photos, while others prefer more traditional ones, and that’s perfectly fine. Everyone has their own style and should hire a photographer who best matches it.

Therefore, it’s important to identify with, and more fundamentally, appreciate the art of the photographer, as it will capture the happiest and most important moments of your life.
